Hello!
I am Gunda. Gunda Sabel-Sheehan.
I was born in Schleswig-Holstein, the most northern (and most beautiful) State in Germany. In 1993 I moved to the USA. I have three amazing adult children and in addition to loving them endlessly, I love Yoga, Positive Psychology, writing, coaching, traveling, cultures, tennis, skiing, sailing and hosting brunch and dinner parties.
SoHam, to me, means "I am all that". It comes from Sanskrit over 5000 years ago and Sanskrit is originally only orally translatable, so who knows what it really means. But to ME, it means a lot. I am all that; I am, what I feel, why I feel and what I do etc. And you, too, YOU ARE ALL THAT! Everybody deserves to be fully themselves.
For some of us, it takes a while to learn who we are and who we want to be and what we want to do. And - how to implement it into our lives! (Me included)
I feel, that I was always expected to know what I wanted to do, who I wanted to be, but most certainly I needed to adjust all that to other people's expectations. I felt alone quite a bit throughout my life.
So...
It is my hope, that I can provide guidance and support to people who feel alone in their struggles and help them find their path. I hope, that at least one person will feel seen and will feel hopeful that there are possibilities of living a flourishing, fulfilling, purposeful life.
My Story
... I have practiced Yoga since 1993, received my Yoga teacher certification at Kripalu Yoga Center in the Berkshires, MA in 2012 and opened my Yoga Studio in 2014. In 2021, I had to close the studio due to Covid and dove into getting my certificates as a Positive Psychology Practitioner and Integrative Coach.
I also have Masters Degrees in International Relations and Sociology and work as a freelance Sociology adjunct professor. I am also an amateur unpublished writer.
But what really matters is, that I have gone through wonderful experiences in my life, as well as a lot of suffering. I have had to endure not just one but multiple relationships with a narcissist, which has shaped my life, my being and the way I view myself in a way, that I did not know until I was in my 40s.
I am aware of feelings, have empathy and a huge desire to be available to people, who feel a bit lost, who may need to just be listened to and need to be reminded that they matter and that they are enough. I am hoping that I could provide some tools for you, that offer a path to ease and joy and contentment.
When I was struggling, I did not have any such support, thus this has become my mission.
It is not (ever!) what it looks like!
It may look like: This person, me, is offering coaching and yoga lessons, because she has it all figured out. Well, big news - I don't.
Which is exactly, why I am doing what I am doing. I have gone through long phases of sadness and self-doubt and loneliness. But somehow, I am still here. And believe me, there were many times, when I wished I wasn't. But, a big BUT, a lot of people, friends, family, an amazing therapist, lots of books, quotes, seminars and practices have helped me to still be here.
And, the practice and studying of Yoga and its philosophy and psychology, as well as studying Positive Psychology have opened my eyes and heart to recognize and follow what really matters.
It is my mission, to provide as much support as I can to ANYBODY who is struggling. Period.
End of story. That's why I am here.
And if you are still here, after reading this, then I am here for you.
And this is why I am doing what I am doing...
